Bethany and Craig Evans in Warwick

Problem - We moved into our 1920’s semi - detached house last year and the bathroom was in desperate need of refurbishment.  The bathroom was a seventies style with a bath and a pedestal basin and the toilet was in a separate room next door.

Wish List -  We wanted to knock down the wall and make one bigger room. I had always wanted a spa bath, a large shower and some storage too for toiletries but didn’t know if we could afford them or fit them in. We also dreamed of an ensuite and I kept looking at the old airing cupboard next to our bedroom and wondering if that could be converted.

Plumbers Advice - We knew a plumber and asked his opinion first of all and he came to take a look and told us we could easily knock down the wall between the existing bathroom and the separate toilet as it was just a stud wall. The other good news was the airing cupboard could be utilised as an ensuite. He told us that many ensuite bathrooms are very small spaces and we would just have to choose our products carefully to make best use of the space.

Choosing the products - Having never bought a new bathroom suite before I began to do some research on the internet first and then panic set in when I saw how many different products and brands were on offer and the technical jargon was baffling. Then I hit upon a site - www.createyouridealbathroom.com and you could order a brochure with all the top brands in one book so I ordered the brochure and within a few days the brochure had come through along with all the others I had ordered. The Create Your Ideal Bathroom brochure was the best one for me to use - the technical terms were all explained, you could compare the prices from different brands and you could mix and match products from different brands - I felt I was getting the best choice from all the brochures.

We worked with our plumber to choose what we wanted and we used the bathroom design planner at the back of the Create Your Ideal Bathroom brochure to plan the space. Our plumber ordered the products for us from the local retailer although I know you can order all the products from your local retailer yourself - on the website there is a list of where you can buy the products from.

All the products were delivered the next day apart from the shower enclosure and the spa bath. The enclosure was specially made to measure to fit our space and this took 6 weeks to arrive.

All the work took about two weeks to complete. It is tough having your home disrupted but the plumber was very good and we always had use of a toilet and a basin at the very least and my mum let us use her shower for a day or two whilst the tiles were setting.

It is finished now and it was so worth it. I have everything I dreamed of a beautiful bathroom and a gorgeous ensuite. I am delighted with the spa bath it really is luxurious and heavenly after a hard day at work and the walk in shower is great to wake me up in the morning.

The Spa bath is a dream come true. I had always wanted one and thought I would check out how much it cost - it was very little extra and I thought - I want to stay in this house and love this bathroom for a long time - so I went for it!

The Shower enclosure - we had this screen made to measure to fit the space we had exactly so that we maximised all the space.

Shower head - I love this - it is like an old fashioned drench shower and its one of my favourite parts of the bathroom.

Ensuite
Corner basin, Basin monobloc mixer, Wall hung WC and Flushplate, Wall hung frame, Enclosure, Shower, Shelves

Space was always going to be tight here so we chose a small corner washbasin, a Designa wet room panel and here we chose a wall hung WC which we chose because it gives the feel of spaciousness as you can see the floor underneath, it is easy to clean and also because the frame is built into a half height stud wall it creates a lovely shelf area for toiletries.
